TAILS receives no government funding.  We rely on your generosity to feed, shelter and heal wounds.  We care for approximately 2,000 homeless pets and wild orphans each year through TAILS and Wild TAILS Rehabilitation Center. None of this would be possible without caring people like you.

Special THANKS to:

On August 6, three very special girls, Sydney Cumbo, Alyssa and Nicole Baars, presented TAILS with $150.20 that they collected themselves! They went door-to-door together to collect the money. The three knew in their hearts that they wanted to do something for TAILS' animals and they got to work! Thank you, Sydney, Alyssa and Nicole, for helping the pets in such a big way. You are remarkable young ladies and we appreciate your efforts and kindness.

Emily Stevens honors Sam

Just weeks before her Sweet 16th birthday, Emily Stevens lost her beloved Lab, Sam, pictured with Emily above, due to cancer. So Emily turned her 16th birthday into a celebration of Sam's life by asking friends and family for donations for TAILS. She must be a special young woman because she brought to TAILS monetary donations plus a vast array of toys for cats and dogs, treats, blankets and beds, plus items that TAILS needs every day, such as paper towels and items from TAILS Wish List.

Emily, TAILS appreciates your kindness (and likes the saying on your t-shirt) and all the pets thank you. Emily knows what a difference these items make to TAILS because she and her mom, Kathleen, are both volunteers at TAILS.

We thank you and know that Sam was a fortunate dog to have had you as his owner. Your love for him clearly shines through!

Three girlfriends in Sycamore, Sadie, Savanah and Karina all got together for a sleep-over one evening and came up with a plan. The 9- and 10-year olds emptied their piggy-banks and went around the neighborhood collecting money to donate to TAILS. Their total came to $39.00! Everyone at TAILS thanks them for being so kind to the homeless pets we house.

Pictured is one of the girls giving a teddy bear to one of the dogs who seems to be asking a staff member if it's OK if she can have it. You bet!

Belle donates in memory of Boo

For Christmas, Belle received money from her grandparents.  To help her experience the true meaning of Christmas, Belle's grandparents told her they wanted her to donate part of it to a charity of her choice.  She immediately thought of Boo, a sheltie belonging to a family friend.

Before Boo, Belle had been afraid of dogs, but one day, she thought she'd try petting Boo - and she fell in love.  After that, she decided that dogs weren't so bad after all.

Sadly, Boo passed away in the fall and so Belle decided that the best place to make her donation was TAILS to help other dogs like Boo.  Thank you for choosing us Belle!

Jason "Bear Down J" Carlson

Sam and Bear Down J pet DeeOgee

At the Third Annual Bear Down for J Golf Tournament held June 14, 2008, Jason cheered for TAILS and raised $500 for us. Sam Lenser, TAILS staff member, took two dogs for Jason and the golfers to meet, DeeOgee and Hope. A booth selling TAILS T-shirts was a big hit with the golfers. Jason is an avid TAILS supporter and such a fan of the Bears that he was inducted to the Football Hall of Fame as a fan in 2004. We at TAILS send Jason a big-Bear hug and thanks for your support of TAILS dogs and cats. HURRAH!!!

Lynne Waldeland

Alex Brown Racing Forum
This wonderful group who usually help horses turned their hearts to a needy cat named Junior. TAILS will care for Junior as he recovers from surgery and waits for his forever home. Many thanks for their compassion for Junior and their donations to TAILS go to Jo Lauren Seavy, Judith Bernier, Nancy Goss, Marilyn Hemrick, Colleen Bergh, Jacalyn Thomas, Janet Lacetera, Walter Remondini, Marilyn Shively, Kelly L. Hanahan, Linda Moser, Betty Cordoza, Sally, MJ, Patti, Andi and Anonymous. These kind people helped to pay for Junior's surgery and months of recovery.

Junior was a horribly abused four year-old cat when given to a woman on a farm. One day, the woman started her car to hear a shriek. Junior, on this wintry cold day, had climbed under the car engine for warmth and when the car started, Junior was caught stradddling the drive shaft with one leg wrapped around it. A veterinarian from St. Charles was called and he anesthetised the terrified and pained cat so he could remove Junior from the car. X'rays and tests showed that in addition to abrasions, Junior had a badly dislocated hip that required surgery. The kind vet lowered his cost for surgery and TAILS agreed to take Junior to help in his recovery and find him a loving forever home.

After Junior's surgery on Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, Dr. Cook, the vet, said that Junior will need 4-6 weeks of cage rest and restricted activity. As long as he is kept quiet, he should heal and be able to walk withouth pain. In spite of all that Junior has experienced, he's a loving cat who purrs when cuddled. He's a gentle, passive soul who wants to live indoors in a home without dogs. When scared, he curls up into a ball. Junior was a victim who now has another chance to live in a loving, caring home, and thanks to the people mentioned above, he has that chance.

National Bank & Trust Co. Toys for TAILS
The National Bank & Trust Company is sponsoring a Toys for TAILS pet toy drive and has opened an account for monetary donations at NB&T's Sycamore, DeKalb and Genoa locations now until November 10. TAILS has incurred astronomical costs while caring for the animals they rescued from the Rochelle hoarding situation. The toys you donate provide the animals at TAILS much-needed entertainment, exercise and redirects the pet's energies during this stressful time. Stop by any one of NB&T's Sycamore, DeKalb or Genoa locations between now and November 10 and drop off a new, unopened dog or cat toy in one of the collection boxes provided.  Plus, sign the Toys for TAILS Memory book and show your support of TAILS and the animals in their extraordinary care. TAILS appreciates the bank for planning and carrying through the project and thanks everyone who participates. And a special thanks to Lily Remond for dreaming of this outstanding way to help TAILS.

Megan, Bridget, Katheryn, Ashley, Lexie, Lexi and Katrina - they saw Foxie and Walker, two wonderful hounds here at TAILS and decided that they would like to raise money to help TAILS find them homes.  They went door to door in their neighborhood and raised over $75!  Thanks girls!  And you 'll be happy to know that both Foxie and Walker found wonderful homes where they are adored, just like we all knew they deserved!
